Number of people dependent on the sector: Coffee under normal conditions provides 150,000 direct jobs and close to 500,000 indirect jobs; invests resources in rural areas, boosting trade and reducing rural poverty. For many years, coffee has contributed to rural populations having a more adequate infrastructure to live, such as roads, schools, access to basic services, among others.

Number of people dependent on coffee: around 25 million are involved in the cultivation and trade of coffee.

Importance in the economy of the country: 35% of the total value of exports and its contribution to GDP is 25%.

Area of the country: 77,082 km2

Importance in the economy of the country: The coffee exported by Panama represents a substantial income for the economy of the country. Today it occupies the fifth place in the list of products with the highest export value. This importance is also due to the large amount of employment generated by this sector, especially during the harvest season.

Importance in the economy of the country: The cultivation of coffee represents for Guatemala an indisputable socio-economic importance as a generator of employment and foreign exchange.

Perú

 


Population: the national population is around 30 million

Area of the country: 1,285,216 km2

Importance in the economy of the country: Its direct production generates 43 million wages per year, to which 5 million wages are added generated by the commerce, industry and transport services, which participate in the coffee production chain.

Honduras

 


Population: 8.4 million inhabitants

Area of the country: 112.492km2

Number of people dependent on coffee: more than 100,000 families benefit directly from the exploitation of the crop; therefore, it links approximately one million direct and indirect jobs in the maintenance, harvesting, commercialization and processing and industrialization of the grain.
